Steve was never athletic, and was usually last picked at everything growing up. This all changed when one day at 23 years old, after being the victim of an armed robbery; Steve decided it was time to change his life. After trying Boxing and Karate, he found that neither were a good fit for him. Soon after, he found Jiu Jitsu, and he was amazed at how many BJJ techniques required no athleticism at all; relying entirely on precision, strategy, and attention to detail.

Less than a year into his training, Steve was given the rare opportunity to start teaching classes while still a white belt, which is completely unheard of in any martial art. As a blue belt, his students were ranked as the #8 BJJ team in the country by the North American Grappling Association, coming in behind Jiu Jitsu powerhouses like Team Lloyd Irvin, Gracie Barra, and 10th Planet; all of whom boast affiliate programs all over the United States.

As a blue and purple belt, Steve traveled the US compiling victories in prestigious tournaments such as IBJJF's American Nationals and Pan American tournaments as well as various NAGA and Grappler's Quest events from coast to coast.

At the brown belt level Steve stepped away from the competition scene to hone his craft as a teacher, learning various ways to implement his philosophies, as well as take on the philosophies and teaching strategies of other great instructors in hopes to become the most well rounded, knowledgable BJJ professor and fitness coach possible. Through a multidisciplinary approach to education that combines technical, hands-on, and video learning; we aim to prepare our students here at Odin's Halls to consistently succeed not only in martial arts and fitness, but in the real world as well. Our biggest goal is to help countless individuals learn the necessary tools they need from of us, and see them move onto achieve their career and life dreams.
